The Ballon d’Or is over, and Leo Messi has won. Deservedly so, as would’ve been the case had Xavi or Iniesta won. Thankfully no one asked any of us at FCBFD to vote (yeah, like that‘s ever going to happen…though we could have done a better job than Netherlands coach and captain who both forgot to read the rules booklet), for if it were up to us, we would have broken the golden orb into 3 pieces and made them all share, darn it! So we can finally stop talking about ‘individual awards in a team sport’ as Puyol puts it. Yes, despite attempts from Madrid press to portray this as a mega conspiracy by Sepp Blatter who (they’d have us believe) spent all his free time in deliberately misrepresenting votes from coaches, captains and journalists just so a Spanish player wouldn’t win. The evidence? Guatamela captain Cabrera claims he didn’t vote for Xabi, but Xavi. Well, that’s one vote, and maybe he should try to make his ‘v’s look less like ‘b’s next time around.
So here’s a video of Messi celebrating with teammates on the plane back, just goes to show how people talking about split in the team and bitterness don’t have the first damn clue. Barca rocks!
